What's wrong with the Lakers? In short, nothing. Yes, they've lost 4 straight road games including an abysmal, disinterested performance in Charlotte last week. And they needed Kobe to bail them out for the 6th time this year with a last second shot against Toronto. But there's no need to panic. It's the middle of March. The NCAA tournament hasn't even started yet. Remember, this is a Laker team that didn't start playing with a sense of urgency until the 4th quarter of the 5th game of the Western Conference Finals last year and still won a championship.
If you want to understand what's going on, you need to get inside their heads. Here's what I imagine is going on in there:
Pau Gasol - "That is a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. There was nothing like that in Memphis. Giselle! I am ready for my massage now..."
Lamar Odom - "We've got to get tough, lay the wood on the other team. I'm gonna do it myself. Get tossed, if I... hey, Khloe, what are you doing? Oooh, that tickles. Mmmm. Later bro..."
Andrew Bynum - (while playing Wii): "This is going to MY TEAM someday. MY TEAM! Ouch. I'd better not stamp my foot like that. It hurts my knee..."
Jordan Farmar - "Man, I don't understand why they don't let ME take the last second shots. Yeah, I know Kobe's made six of them this year. But he's missed two! I wouldn't have missed those two!"
Ron Artest - " zorp zwat zing zappff..."
Derek Fisher - "Oh wow. What I have I gotten myself into? I'm going to be the president of the Player's Association when armageddon strikes!"
Kobe Bryant - "When I retire, I'm gonna buy me a team. And then I'm gonna hire me to be the GM. And I ain't drafting no chump like Kwame Brown either. I'll draft,uh... uh... uh... I'll draft ME! And I'll be the coach too. And then I can take ALL THE SHOTS!"
